We can work with plan-managed and self-managed participants if your goals align with the support we provide. 

You are not required to have a referral to access psychological or counselling support.  Some clients can access a rebate from their health fund.  If you are not sure, call your health fund provider and ask whether your cover provides rebates for psychology or counselling.

To be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $98.95 on a 50-minute session, a referral letter and Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician must be provided.  Mental health challenges covered by Medicare are specific.  Please check this link for more information about what is covered - Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative under Medicare | APS (psychology.org.au).

For eligible clients, a medical practitioner will usually provide a referral for an initial 6 psychology sessions.  Following this, the practitioner may review the progress report provided and, if appropriate, issue a referral for a further 4 sessions.  Medicare rebates are available for up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year for clients who meet eligibility criteria.

If your child has an eligible referral, up to 2 parent sessions can be claimed through Medicare.  These sessions are included within, not in addition to, the 10 Medicare-rebated psychology sessions available per calendar year.

Psychology sessions may be eligible for rebates through some private health funds.  Please check with your health fund to confirm your individual entitlements.

Private health insurance rebates may be available for counselling sessions, depending on your level of cover.  Maria is registered with a number of health funds, and eligible clients may be able to claim a rebate directly through their insurer.  Please check with your health fund to confirm your individual entitlements.
